Meet Our Team

Alex Gonzales, the Managing Partner of Gonzales Taplin PA, has over 35 years’ experience in national insurance regulatory, insurance corporate regulatory transactional, and insurer and agent enforcement matters, including cases brought by state insurance departments, state attorney generals, and federal agencies.

Prior to forming Gonzales Taplin, Alex was a partner at Duane Morris LLP, a Philadelphia-based international law firm with 29 offices around the world. Alex was a Team Lead for the firm’s International Insurance and Reinsurance Industry Group. Prior to joining Duane Morris, he was the managing partner of Winstead PC’s Austin office, as well as chair of Winstead’s Public and Regulatory Practice Group and its Insurance industry group.

Alex was the Associate Commissioner of Insurance and Director of Legal Services at the Texas State Board of Insurance from 1987 to 1991. He served extended periods as Acting Commissioner from 1990 to 1991.

Alex is also a U.S. Navy JAG Corps veteran.

Alex is a graduate of St. Edward’s University (BA), The University of Texas at Austin School of Law (JD), The University of California at Berkeley (MBA), and The University of Texas at Austin LBJ School of Public Affairs (Executive Program).

Alex is listed as Band 1 (Insurance Regulation) by Chambers and Partners, First Tier in insurance and reinsurance by U.S. News & World’s Best Lawyers in America, and he is touted as a Super Lawyer by Texas Monthly. He was also first in the Austin Business Journal’s 2006 Best of Business Lawyers poll. He additionally has an extensive list of successful tenures in senior professional, government, and community service positions.
