Gonzales Taplin Law Firm sent 2 of our attorneys to the ABA TIPS Conference this year in San Diego, CA.   The leadership sessions and insurance regulation sessions were filled with brainstorming, fellowship, and fun. Christ Rapoport is the new Chair-Elect of the 2025 ABA TIPS Leadership Insurance Regulation Committee. She received a recognition award,

Attendees included three law students, seasoned attorneys, and those interested in insurance regulation.  Here are the highlights and pictures of Christa’s participation:

  • Discussion to Encourage Membership by providing a national panel list for referrals
  • Committee Partnerships: partner with committees such as cyber, cannabis, etc., on shared interests; focus on smaller licensee issues that have different needs from global insurance groups. The latter commonly employs numerous regulatory attorneys.
  • Insurance Regulation Planning to create a three (3)-year strategy. Attendees considered the possible goals for the three-year Insurance Regulatory Committee strategy cycle:
    • Five-part podcast (20 min max) on common regulatory concerns.
    • ABA Brief – two articles per year submitted on complex topics.
    • Annual insurance regulation summit to be held at a university.
    • Communication – increase the use of welcome letters, ABA Committee communication, etc.
    • Annual Regulation Survey
    • Budget creation
    •  Planning a meet-up at the NAIC.

Brandon Camilleri was selected as one of 18 young attorneys to attend the 2025–2026 ABA TIPS Leadership Academy, a national program focused on developing attorney leaders.

The Leadership Academy included participating in a three-day training session at the TIPS Fall Meeting in San Diego, wherein he engaged in courses with senior attorneys and judges.

Attended sessions on leadership ethics, professionalism, innovation, and artificial intelligence, with guidance from TIPS Chairs, Section leaders, and Leadership Academy Task Force members.

Brandon met and made new friends with attorneys from across the country in different practice areas and was able to expand his network with future leaders in the legal community. During the sessions, he was able to develop strategies for excellent client service, mentoring, and professional growth.  Brandon gained insight into challenges in the profession, including AI ethics, access to justice, and attorney wellness.

There was also participation in joint sessions with TIPS Committees and public service initiatives. Brandon was able to take advantage of the enhanced leadership skills through interactive workshops and networking receptions with ABA leaders and past Academy alumni.

What a great opportunity to build a foundation for long-term involvement in the American Bar Association, including future leadership within TIPS committees.
