Meet Our Team

David Edwards joined Gonzales Taplin in April 2023. Mr. Edwards has practiced law principally in the securities, mergers & acquisitions, and general corporate areas, including in the not-for-profit sector, most recently with the law firm of Barnes & Thornburg (Chicago) and previously with other firms, notably, Reed Smith (Philadelphia). He is admitted to practice in Illinois.

Mr. Edwards left big law practice in 2011 to assist new health insurance companies obtain loan awards under the federal CO-OP program. The company he created and funded for this effort (Gaen Healthcare Advisors) obtained awards aggregating $330 million to create health insurance companies in three states–Illinois, Connecticut, and Arizona. Gaen assisted in the early-stage development of these insurance companies, principally in structuring, licensure, governance, and contract negotiations. Since that time, Mr. Edwards has been associated with NTG Consultants, providing legal and insurance consulting advice to its clients.

In his legal career, Mr. Edwards served as either responsible partner or principal working attorney for, among others:

Mylan Inc. W.P. Carey & Co., Dick’s Sporting Goods, American College of Surgeons, COMFORCE Corporation, Advantage Human Resourcing, Inc., Krosaki USA Inc., Porter Athletic Equipment Co., and HumanZyme Inc.
Mr. Edwards is also licensed as an insurance agent in the four major lines (life, health, property and casualty) in all 50 states and D.C. and as a surplus lines broker in Washington State.

David Edwards earned his B.A. degree from Duke University and his J.D. degree from Cornell University.
